Kalvin Phillips takes to Instagram to hail 'fantastic' Leeds-linked PL star who's becoming a free agent soon
With the Premier League season now over, Leeds United can look to bolster their ranks ahead of next term.
Already the Whites have secured the signing of Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg.
However, there’s certainly scope for Leeds to bring in more players as they look to kick on in 2022-23.
Now, a player who’s reportedly on the Elland Road radar will officially be a free agent as of July.
According to The Mirror, Leeds ‘remain linked’ with Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.
As well as Jesse Marsch’s side, the likes of Newcastle and Everton are reportedly also eyeing the 29-year-old.
And West Ham, where Lingard enjoyed a fruitful loan spell in the second half of 2020-21, are apparently frontrunners.
On Wednesday, Manchester United confirmed Lingard will leave when his contract expires later this month.
The England international has struggled for game time this season, with just two Premier League outings in 2021-22.
After the club confirmed the news, Lingard took to Instagram with a heartfelt message.
And Leeds star Kalvin Phillips was among the well-wishers:
In April, Leeds Live looked at five players with expiring contracts who the Whites should target this summer.
Lingard was top of the list, the outlet deeming him a ‘perfect’ fit for Marsch’s side.
“Lingard is capable of playing both out wide and in an attacking midfield role, making him perfect for Jesse Marsch’s 4-2-2-2 system,” they wrote.
“There won’t be a shortage of takers this summer, though.”
