Report: Kalvin Phillips did something just before kick-off which Leeds fans will love
It’s safe to say that Leeds United and Kalvin Phillips got what they wanted this weekend, as the Whites won at Brentford to stave off relegation.
Goals from Raphinha and Jack Harrison ensured a memorable final day of the season for Leeds, who had looked for all the world like going down heading into kick off.
Of course, Leeds’ players didn’t ever think they were going to drop. They played with an aggression and purpose from the off at Brentford, something which was epitomised by the performances of big players, Kalvin Phillips being one of them on the day.
And as reported by the Yorkshire Post, the Leeds favourite did something just before the game started which shows just why he is so loved. With the rest of the players focused and fans wrapped up in the tension of the approaching whistle, Phillips found time in his pre-match ritual to go over to the Leeds fans and sharing a moment with them.
As the YP reports, Phillips is keen to show his appreciation for the Whites fans. And certainly, the Leeds fans showed him plenty of love in return.
TBR’s View: Keeping Kalvin Phillips One Of Leeds’ Biggest Challenges
Phillips is a player in demand this summer and there are big question marks over whether or not Leeds can keep their talisman.
The England midfielder knows he’s loved at Elland Road. That part isn’t up for debate. The big issue is does he want to go and test himself at European level, where the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are said to be keen.
Rightly, Leeds can at least demand a big fee for Phillips if they decide to sell. But who they’d replace him with is another matter entirely. That’s the biggest conundrum here for Leeds, and one Jesse Marsch will have to think long and hard about.
