Kalvin Phillips shares how Illan Meslier reacted to Leeds draw

Kalvin Phillips has told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports (broadcast on 25/4; 22:00) that Illan Meslier was one Leeds United player who was pleased after their draw with Crystal Palace, with the Frenchman buzzing with his performance in the stalemate.

Leeds secured back-to-back clean sheets for only the second time this season. Interestingly, the previous double was achieved with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Meslier was certainly the busier of the two goalkeepers at Selhurst Park on Monday however. Leeds were poor in possession against the Eagles and rarely looked like opening the scoring.

Palace however, created a number of openings, with Wilfried Zaha and Conor Gallagher going close. Every time they did get a shot away though, Meslier was there to keep them at bay.

He made a very good double save from Zaha with one of the last chances of the game. And Phillips suggested afterwards that the goalkeeper was one player who reflected on the result positively.

“Illan the big man is buzzing in there that he kept a clean sheet and made a good double save at the end. We’re very happy as a team, but disappointed not to get the three points,” he told Monday Night Football.

Meslier may have guided Leeds to a massive point

The general mood amongst Leeds fans on social media seemed to be deflation. They have a daunting run of games ahead. And they are only five points clear of the bottom three, having played one game more.

So Monday may have felt like an opportunity missed. You could certainly understand the frustration that they did not create more when a win could have made such a difference.

But a point could be huge also. Leeds still have an awful goal difference. So that clean sheet could be reflected upon as a big moment if the Whites do ultimately stay up.
