Kalvin Phillips sends Instagram reply to Leeds ace after 'frustrating' Newcastle draw
Leeds United ace Illan Meslier delivered a superb performance for the Whites on Friday night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s charges took part in the first Premier League game of matchday five, taking on Newcastle.
But while Leeds had plenty of chances to win on Tyneside, they were wasteful in front of goal and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The Elland Road outfit took the lead in the 13th minute through Raphinha.
He weighed in with a cross-shot which Rodrigo allowed to go through his legs and catch Karl Darlow out.
However, the hosts equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Allan Saint-Maximin picked up the ball just outside the box, carved some space for himself and rifled home.
Leeds arguably should have been awarded a penalty when 1-0 up.
Bielsa’s charges weighed in with 22 efforts, nine of which were on target, and dominated possession.
At the same time, Newcastle had 17 shots, seven on target, and Meslier did superbly to keep the Magpies at bay.
The Frenchman took to Instagram on Saturday to say “frustrating night but we keep going”, to which Phillips replied with a message of support.
Leeds currently sit 17th in the Premier League table with three draws and two defeats.
They are in League Cup third-round action away at Fulham on Tuesday, before facing West Ham at Elland Road in the league on Saturday.
