Kalvin Phillips has angrily blasted a Leeds United fan on Instagram after the supporter commented on his latest post, urging the Leeds star to “snap Patrick Bamford in training”.
Bamford, 26, is coming under increasing pressure and criticism from sections of the Leeds support after failing to score in his last eight Championship outings. Eddie Nketiah came off the bench on Tuesday to equalise against Preston.
Despite starting all 13 Championship outings, Bamford has only scored four goals this season – while Arsenal loanee Nketiah has been forced to come on as a substitute. The latter has still scored more than Bamford, with five.
Leeds midfielder Phillips posted on Instagram to congratulate Nketiah after his looping header beat Declan Rudd and saw Leeds salvage a point at Deepdale, keeping them in second place.
The discussion between Bamford and Nketiah relies upon the fact that Marcelo Bielsa believes Bamford contributes to play. The Argentine has continued to start him, under the basis that goals are not everything when it comes to picking Bamford.
Nketiah is more renowned for his goalscoring touch, but with Leeds struggling to put their chances into the net, it could be time for Nketiah to finally get his first start this season. It remains to be seen if Bielsa will change things up front.
Leeds fans are desperate for Nketiah to start and one fan went as far as commenting on Phillips’ Instagram, asking the midfielder to “snap Bamford” in order to make the decision an easy one for Bielsa. Phillips responded angrily.
