Kalvin Phillips has posted on Instagram after making his comeback from a shoulder injury during Leeds United’s 0-0 draw against Arsenal at Elland Road on Sunday evening – though he has underlined his frustration at failing to win.
Phillips, 24, missed three Premier League matches and the latest international break with England after damaging his shoulder in training. However, he returned to training last week and started at the base of the Leeds midfield.
His fitness was not in question and he lasted the entire 90 minutes, as Leeds looked to break past the Gunners and earn a fourth Premier League win of the season. However, it was not to be, despite hitting the woodwork on three occasions.
The midfielder has now posted on Instagram, summing up the general feeling among Leeds supporters that although a point against Arsenal is a decent result – many are thinking what could have been, given their domination of the match.
TBR’s view – Leeds really missed Phillips
Not only did Leeds miss Phillips, but the performance against Arsenal shows just how frail they were without him. His defensive stability and positioning, as well as his intelligence to cover, were crucial in keeping a third clean sheet of the season.
It is not rocket science to see that the two worst performances of the season – against Leicester and Palace – have come in his absence. The £30k-a-week (Mirror) ace is crucial to Leeds. If he plays well, Leeds play well. If he is absent, Leeds are abject.
