‘He’s not the best trainer’: Kalvin Phillips makes claim about 'unbelievable' Leeds player
Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips has claimed that Patrick Bamford isn’t the best trainer around the Thorp Arch training ground.
During an interview with Football Focus at the weekend, the England midfielder was discussing his teammate joining up with him on international duty.
Bamford was given the nod for the first time by Gareth Southgate earlier this month. He made his first appearance during a comprehensive win over Andorra at Wembley.
Phillips was a mainstay in the England team at Euro 2020. The Three Lions reached the Final of the tournament and the Leeds star silenced a lot of critics.
Some felt that Bamford was unlucky not to be part of the squad too; although he has now been given a chance to shine under Southgate.
Speaking on Bamford’s first call-up, Phillips has admitted that the Leeds striker was apprehensive on England duty.
He told Football Focus: “He was quite nervous. The first day we were training, he got up extra early to have a little coffee and chill out.
“At Leeds, he’s not the best trainer; I was nervous. But honestly, he was unbelievable.”
Bamford needs to use England call-up as catalyst to fire for Leeds
Last season saw the 28-year-old star at Elland Road. Marcelo Bielsa’s primary source of goals scored 17 times and also registered eight assists.
This season has been a struggle though. Bamford’s only goal came against Burnley back in August and the Whites are yet to win in the Premier League.
The Whites striker has claimed two assists and it’s fair to say that he does bring other qualities to the Leeds team.
Ultimately he is paid to score goals though and if Leeds are to start climbing the table, they need Bamford to find his scoring boots sharpish.
