Kalvin Phillips lauds Ben White on Instagram after Arsenal beat Norwich
Kalvin Phillips was amongst those to send a message to Ben White after the Arsenal defender took to Instagram to comment on the Gunners’ victory over Norwich.
Mikel Arteta’s men have their first points of the campaign. They beat the Canaries 1-0 at the Emirates. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got the game’s only goal.
Arteta made a host of changes for the contest. The likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Magalhaes came into the side.
But White was also brought back into the lineup after he missed a couple of games before the international break.
Of course, Arsenal will come up against much tougher tests in the weeks ahead. But the very early signs suggest that White and Gabriel could be a crucial partnership.
The pair kept Arsenal’s first clean sheet in the league this term in their first appearance together.
White also made a contribution at the other end of the pitch. According to Whoscored, he made three key passes. Only Nicolas Pepe and Bukayo Saka managed more.
Following the game, White took to Instagram to express his delight at the victory. And amongst those to reply was Phillips…
Arsenal back four against Norwich must now continue to perform
Arsenal were not quite at full strength. A fully fit Thomas Partey would arguably improve that side further.
But it seems fair to say that Arteta could hardly make that back four stronger.
Tomiyasu did well at right-back, while Kieran Tierney remains one of the first names on the team sheet.
It could be huge for the Gunners if White and Gabriel strike up a good partnership.
The very early signs are encouraging.
