The Yorkshire Evening Post has named Kalvin Phillips their player of the season at Leeds United. Whilst Pablo Hernandez may have been the obvious choice, the talented local lad fully deserves the recognition as well.
Phillips has developed sensationally under Marcelo Bielsa’s tutelage. The Argentine has seen something special in the player, helping adapt into a top holding midfielder, capable of playing at centre-back.

It is great for Leeds fans to see one of their own thriving at Elland Road. Usually, top talents are gone by now. Speaking to the YEP, it was something Phillips mentioned.
“I had loads of friends who came through here and it seemed like everyone was going one by one.
“There were times when I thought ‘there’s only going to be me left!’”
Indeed, Leeds fans have got used to watching their top young talents be picked off by other clubs.
Sam Byram headed off to West Ham United, a move which has not worked out. Charlie Taylor is now a regular starter at Premier League Burnley. If only he was still present. Ronaldo Vieira joined Sampdoria in the summer. Lewis Cook, probably the best of the lot, is at Bournemouth and has played for England since leaving.
Phillips, however, seems like he could stay at Leeds for life. If he can help push them into the Premier League, he might even act as inspiration for the young talent at Thorp Arch currently to stick by the Whites. Leeds fans will no doubt hope so. Because watching one of their own thrive is a favourite past-time of the Elland Road faithful.
