Aaron Ramsdale and Ben White produced a superb defensive display to help Arsenal keep a clean sheet against West Ham. Winning 2-0, Ramsdale posted a picture of himself and White on Instagram – and Kalvin Phillips responded.

In the midst of drama surrounding the club’s captaincy, Arsenal came into the match off the back of a 3-0 win over Southampton. West Ham’s form of late has been much more questionable.

Indeed, it showed. Arsenal looked as if they were the only team capable of winning at The Emirates – and Gabriel Martinelli gave the Gunners the lead just after half-time. A lovely finish, after a pass from Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners looked in excellent shape, with White and Ramsdale crucial in helping keep another clean sheet – an eighth in 17 Premier League games. Substitute Emile Smith-Rowe scored a late second, on 87 minutes.

Since coming into the side, England goalkeeper Ramsdale has sparkled. In 15 games, the ex-Bournemouth and Sheffield United man has kept nine clean sheets – conceding just 13. He posted on Instagram.

Leeds star Phillips posts verdict on Arsenal duo White and Ramsdale

The connection of White and Ramsdale has been crucial to Arsenal’s turn around in form. Mikel Arteta has combined White, Ramsdale and Gabriel in the core of his defence – with Takehiro Tomiyasu on the right.

Kieran Tierney, a potential replacement as captain for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has largely played on the left – though Nuno Tavares did impress for a bit. Phillips gave his verdict on White and Ramdale.

The trio, of course, play together for England. Phillips also played alongside White during the latter’s 2019-20 loan spell at Elland Road, in which he played all 49 games in helping Leeds gain promotion.
