Kalvin Phillips believes clean sheet is ‘massive’ for Leeds United and takes ownership of ‘big mistake’

Leeds United are set to face Reading in the Championship this weekend and will be hoping to continue winning ways after defeating Bristol City last week.

Leeds’ form has certainly picked up in their last two games. The West Yorkshire side dominated their 1-1 draw with Brentford prior to the Bristol City win. It was also Leeds’ first clean sheet since the 2-0 win over Hull City way back on the 10th December.

One key reason for Leeds’ return to form has been the impact of Kalvin Phillips. The 24-year-old missed the previous three games through suspension after picking up a red card against QPR.

Now, Phillips has been discussing that red card with LUTV and also praised the fact Leeds have finally kept another clean sheet.

“The clean sheet was massive, we hadn’t had one for a while and we’d been conceding too many goals since after Christmas so we were very happy with it.

“Obviously the red card was disappointing, it was a bad mistake from me, but this break has let me regenerate physically and mentally.

“I’ve come back trying to do my best for the team and we’ve had two good results in the last two games so hopefully we can keep it going.”

Leeds simply look a far better team with their ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ back in the fold. His performance against Bristol City has even created an England buzz.

His importance to helping Leeds finally break their clean-sheet hoodoo cannot be overstated.

With Ben White and Luke Ayling now back in their favoured positions, Leeds look a far more combative defensive unit. Hopefully, with Phillips again on form, Leeds can bag a second clean sheet in a row this weekend.
