Leeds United star Luke Ayling has finally returned to training and his old pals Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips are delighted to see him back.

The 30-year-old defender underwent surgery at the end of last season after a red card against Arsenal back in May ended his campaign. Leeds then decided to send to him the doctors to correct a long-standing knee issue. After almost three months out, it looks like he’s finally on his way back to full fitness.

Ayling hadn’t posted anything on Instagram for over two months, but the Englishman took to the platform yesterday to inform his fans that he is back training with the ball.

The defender revealed that he is “getting stronger and fitter each day” and that he can’t wait to get back to full fitness.

“Been a long time since I’ve been able to post a picture of me with a ball at my feet! Getting stronger and fitter each day. Can’t wait to be back with the boys and be part of the group,” Ayling posted on Instagram yesterday.

Phillips replied saying ‘What a man,’ while Stuart Dallas wrote: “Absolutely love it.”

Raphinha was delighted to see him as well, and he reacted with three heart-eyes emoji under the post.

Ayling has been an integral part of Leeds United for years now, and his return to full training will be a boost to everyone else in the squad.

However, whether he will come back and be a regular is anyone’s guess at this moment in time.

New signing Rasmus Kristensen has taken over Ayling’s role in the squad at right-back. He played each of Leeds’ first two games of the season, and he will only get better in the coming weeks.

Ayling is unlikely to be match-fit for a while considering that he hasn’t had a pre-season. However, it will be interesting to see if Jesse Marsch will bring him straight back into the starting eleven once he’s fully fit.
