The agent of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, Graham Sharp, has apparently said that his client will stay at Elland Road beyond the end of the transfer window.

According to their live blog, 8 August, 2:22pm, Sharp has said to their journalist Graham Smyth, that he will soon sit down with Victor Orta over a new contract for the Englishman.

And Phillips’ team-mate Adam Forshaw was asked about his thoughts on Phillips staying and said: “First and foremost it hasn’t affected him or anyone, nobody has spoken about it, he is a massive part of the team and from a selfish point of view I want him here to get promoted.”

Leeds have undergone plenty of ins and outs this summer to balance their finances in line with Financial Fair Play, but it would have been all but impossible to find a player to replace Phillips.

He’s become an intelligent holding midfielder under Marcelo Bielsa and can also operate as part of the back four when needed.

Phillips is so crucial to what Leeds are trying to do and their supporters will be hoping that a new contract can be finalised sooner rather than later so he can focus on trying to get Leeds back into the promised land once more.
