Kalvin Phillips admits he’s missing his Sunday roasts under strict Marcelo Bielsa regime

Kalvin Phillips has been discussing his transition at Leeds United since Marcelo Bielsa was appointed in the summer of 2018.

Prior to the Argentine’s arrival, Phillips was struggling to live up to his full potential. However, Bielsa saw something in the youngster and soon made him one of his main projects at Elland Road.

The results have been outstanding. Phillips has been performing brilliantly for the past two seasons and now there is even talk about a potential England call-up.

But one part of the Bielsa reinvention that has been a struggle for Phillips has been the diet. As he told The Mirror this weekend, cutting out his Sunday dinners has been a huge task.

“He taught us to be good players you have to be good athletes as well. For me, the diet has been difficult because I’d go out and eat Sunday dinners every week.

“It was very difficult but it’s something you have to do if you want to reach the top.”

Bielsa has worked wonders with several members of the Leeds team. The likes of Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, and Luke Ayling, in particular, have improved massively since Bielsa’s arrival in West Yorkshire.

A key reason for that has been the hard work being done in training and the rewards are clear to see in the form Phillips has been showing under his management.

Hopefully, it will be enough to help Leeds back to the Premier League.
