Liverpool have been dealt a potential transfer blow with Napoli defender, Kalidou Koulibaly, insisting he could well finish his career with the Italian club and claiming he is ‘100 per cent committed’ to the club.
The big Senegalese star is a man in-demand heading into this summer. The 29-year-old has been a rock at Napoli for a number of seasons now, making in excess of 200 appearances for the Serie A giants.
Last month, Italian news outlet, Tuttomercato, claimed that Liverpool were set for a big-money raid for Koulibaly. In recent days, the likes of PSG and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in the defender.
But, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Koulibaly has played down talk of a move away from the club.
“I never spoke to Napoli about leaving. If we have to find a solution, we will find it, but I have never talked about the transfer market.
“I also read in the newspapers about my future. But I only want to think about playing, I am 100 per-cent [committed to] Napoli and it bothers me to be linked, every day, to this or that European club.”
Napoli are believed to want around £90m if they are to be convinced to sell their star man. President Aurelio De Laurentiis is known for not being a soft touch, so Liverpool will no doubt have to find the right amount of cash if they indeed wish to land Koulibaly.
Koulibaly was previously managed by current Everton boss, Carlo Ancelotti. Indeed, the Italian loved him, claiming the defender to be ‘the best in the world’ during their time together.

There’s simply no way Liverpool are going to part ways with the sort of money Napoli wants to land Koulibaly.
For one, he is 29. Secondly, they have Van Dijk and Gomez, while Joel Matip is a capable deputy.
Finally, Koulibaly doesn’t seem in a rush to move on. All those things seem to suggest that we won’t be seeing the big defender in a Reds shirt anytime soon.
