Amid so much talk of Arsenal signing a new striker, Kai Havertz might have a point to prove to Mikel Arteta.
Right now, Arsenal fans are busy including the names of Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres in their hypothetical line-ups for next season.
However, Kai Havertz is a name seldom seen alongside the likes of Rodrygo and Martin Zubimendi in those teams, a player who is almost being forgotten by Arsenal fans.
Before his big injury, Havertz was being lauded at Arsenal for an excellent season — he was leading the line to good effect for Arteta.
However, the German’s injury added so much noise to the ‘Arsenal need to buy a striker’ debate, one that has become incredibly one-sided.
But with Arsenal keen to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, Havertz might have just received a surprise boost.
Kai Havertz should be excited as Arsenal try to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga
Since Arteta’s appointment in 2019, Arsenal have made a habit of signing Chelsea players, a move that hasn’t always paid off.
But the Gunners will hope that Kepa Arrizabalaga falls into the category of a Havertz, rather than a David Luiz.

That being said, Kepa and Havertz did play together at Chelsea, and one of the pair’s public interactions at Stamford Bridge could actually bode well for Arsenal.
Back in 2022, Chelsea beat West Ham United 2-1 in the Premier League, a win that was secured by a late Havertz goal.
Surprisingly, Chelsea started Raheem Sterling as their number nine in that match, leaving Havertz on the bench alongside Kepa.
And before being introduced in the 72nd minute, Kepa could be seen giving Havertz some detailed advice on the sidelines.
Shortly after, the German gave Chelsea the lead in the 88th minute, a goal after which he decided to shush the crowd.
Andrea Berta’s first Arsenal signing is a bargain
Jose Mourinho has praised Kepa at Chelsea before, a player who does have a ton of experience at 30-years-old.
In addition, Joe Cole called Kepa ‘outstanding’ when speaking for TNT Sports during the same season in which the goalkeeper gave Havertz that friendly word before scoring.
And if Arsenal are able to sign Kepa for a nominal fee this summer then Andrea Berta and his team deserve a lot of credit.
Arsenal wanted Joan Garcia this summer, a deal which would potentially have cost four or five times the fee they’ll pay for Kepa.
And that will therefore give the Gunners much more money to find a striker to dovetail with Havertz next season.
Kepa’s arrival might be a big boost for Havertz next term in terms of the confidence he might inspire.
But the Gunners will still press on with their plans to buy a new number nine, and Sesko now has ‘universal backing’ at Arsenal.
