Alexander Kacaniklic left Liverpool as a young player because Roy Hodgson accidentally agreed to let him go in a swap deal, according to the Metro.
The midfielder went to Fulham as part of the deal that took Paul Konchesky to Anfield under Hodgson, but says he was not meant to be involved.
He said: “It was a bit difficult for Liverpool to replace me. When I was in Fulham and before I signed, I had a conversation with Roy Hodgson, where we found out that he had changed the wrong Alex.
“He thought he changed another Alex for Konchesky. But then it was too late. It’s a little funny. He just told me I was welcome back in Liverpool with open arms, but that I should do what I felt. I did not [go back].”

Liverpool have come a long way since the ill-fated reign of Hodgson and many of them will feel that the embarrassing Kacaniklic saga sums that up neatly.
Bringing in Konchesky was a mistake in itself but to get rid of a promising young player Hodgson wanted to keep indicates how Hodgson was losing control of what was going on at Anfield during that mercifully brief era.
