Report: Club think they can beat Tottenham to 'incredible' player despite Paratici already putting up £25m+
Italian giants Juventus are hoping they can beat Tottenham to the signing of Nicolo Zaniolo this summer, according to a report from SportMediaSet.
Tottenham are thought to be keen on signing Zaniolo and it was claimed last week that Fabio Paratici had even proposed a £25m plus Joe Rodon deal for the Italian star. However, that move was rebuffed by the Rome club and now SportMediaSet report that Juventus think they can sign Zaniolo instead.
It’s claimed there has been ‘new contacts’ between the two Italian clubs and that Juve hope that they can convince Roma to do business in the end.
Of course, any move from Juve for Zaniolo would be a bitter blow for Tottenham. The ‘incredible‘ Roma star would more or less complete Antonio Conte’s big summer overhaul and bring genuine quality to the ranks in North London.
It seems, then, that Fabio Paratici has some work on his hands if he is to get this deal done. Zaniolo could take some convincing to leave Italy, and we’ve seen it more than once in the past when players from Italy find it hard to turn down moves to the very biggest Serie A clubs.
TBR’s View: Tottenham Should Push For Zaniolo
This is always the problem when a club tries to sign a player of high quality. There will always be other big names interested and it’s little surprise to see Juventus mentioned here.
For Spurs, they’ll need to hope that they can first come up with a deal that Roma deems acceptable. From there, they’ll need to hope that Zaniolo himself fancies the move to London.
Of course, Antonio Conte could be a deciding factor, and we’ve all seen how Paratici can produce players. But Juve’s interest is a pain for Spurs, who would have hoped for a clear run here.
