Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has chosen Juventus as his preferred suitor with his current Emirates Stadium deal running out, according to Sport Mediaset, via Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.
They report that Ramsey has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Italian champions, which would take him to Turin at the end of the season.
But they also claim that the Old Lady want to push the deal through sooner and land Ramsey this month; with negotiations with the Welshman’s agent David Baldwin having been in negotiations with the Italian giants for a number of days.
Interestingly, the report claims that German international Sami Khedira could move the other way and arrive in north London at the end of the season; creating something of a midfield swap deal.
So who would come out best in that agreement? Juventus would get a highly sought-after midfielder who still has plenty to offer – if they can find the right position for him.
But Arsenal would also get a World Cup winner; offering an experience, mentality and stature that only Mesut Ozil within their current ranks could match.
Khedira’s arrival could convince Ozil to stay – doubts have emerged over his future in recent months – but he is not a like for like replacement for Ramsey.
Arsenal would lose a lot of attacking impetus and dynamism; injuries have reduced Khedira’s effectiveness and Unai Emery would not want to be lumbered with a fading force.
