PSG technical director Leonardo has been discussing the club’s transfer plans for the remainder of the summer, including fielding a question on Everton star Idrissa Gana Gueye.
Speaking after PSG drew 1-1 with Nuremburg in a friendly, Leonardo informed Le Parisien of the club’s plans. He stated that a central midfielder was still a priority for PSG, but refused to talk up interest in Gueye.
“(We) targeted a central defender and defensive positions. The central defender has arrived with Abdou Diallo, and now we are looking for the midfielder. (Idrissa Gana Gueye?) It’s just a possibility, a possibility.”
Everton, of course, know that PSG are likely to make a considered attempt to sign Gueye this summer.
The Everton star has just finished international duty with Senegal, falling to a 1-0 AFCON final defeat to Algeria.
His starring performances in Egypt will have undoubtedly left PSG further keen on pursuing a deal.
Everton, as reported by The Sun, rejected a £26 million bid from the Ligue 1 side in January.
Le Parisien is reporting this weekend that Everton and PSG want a solution to this transfer situation, regardless of the outcome, by the end of the week. A deal in the region of €30 million (£26.7 million) is mentioned and, as reported by L’Equipe, PSG wants the deal done as soon as possible.
Everton fans will just want a swift conclusion to this rambling transfer rumour so that the club can move on with finalising the squad for next season.
