Liverpool have been quite enamoured with their manager Jurgen Klopp in his nine month spell at the club, so much so that they have already awarded him a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2022 in a six-year deal.
Klopp already had a contract until 2018 with the option for a further year, but the owners felt that now was the time to tie down the German on a long term deal in order to ward off any potential suitors. Klopp’s assistants Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz have also signed six year deals.
The move from the owners is a very proactive one that is has left Liverpool fans around the world waking up with a smile on their face. Klopp’s impact in his first nine months at the club has been huge, bringing the feel good factor back to Anfield with runs to the final of the Capital One Cup and Europa League, as well as impressive league wins away to Manchester City and Chelsea.
However, Klopp could only guide his team to eighth place in the league last season, and fans will be hoping that the inconsistencies will disappear and Liverpool can return to the top of the English game.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news:
