Jurgen Klopp should be convinced to sign Declan Rice after Monday night

Declan Rice’s excellent performance against Liverpool would not have come as a shock to Jurgen Klopp. West Ham drew 1-1 with the title-chasing Reds and the talented midfielder put in a brilliant performance for the home side.

Before the game, the Liverpool boss had spoken of his admiration for the player. As quoted by the Irish Independent, the German spoke of the player’s ‘fantastic development’ in the heart of the West Ham midfield.

So should he be on Liverpool’s radar?

One thing yesterday’s game did highlight for Liverpool is that they could still do with better strength in depth. In particular, the centre-back and central midfield positions looked weak for the Merseyside club on Monday night.

Those are both roles in which Rice could thrive.

He would be a brilliant replacement for Jordan Henderson in the heart of midfield, or indeed for James Milner.

Then, when injuries hit like they have this season, Liverpool would also have a top centre-back option.

Of course, Rice only signed a new deal at West Ham in December which keeps him at the club until 2024. But a handsome enough offer would undoubtedly tempt West Ham into a sale. Based on his display on Monday night, Liverpool would be right to consider breaking the bank.
