Liverpool produced the sort of display that all the very best sides have to put in every so often as they saw off Burnley on a wet and windy day at Turf Moor today.
A goal from Fabinho in the opening 45 minutes was enough to see Liverpool over the line. It means the Reds keep the pressure firmly on Manchester City at the top, with a clash with Pep Guardiola’s side still to come as well.

And while Liverpool weren’t at their free-flowing best against the Clarets in terms of attacking play, there was a lot to admire about some of their defensive work. Yes, Burnley had some chances what they duly missed, but in the main, the Reds held firm.
Key to that solidity in defence was Virgil van Dijk. The giant Dutchman, back from his serious injury last year, has been brilliant all season long. And speaking after the game in his press conference, Liverpool boss Klopp admits he has now got his man back to his best.
“We were always convinced. He is completely back on track and at his best again. That is good timing because it is a decisive part of the season,” Klopp said.
TBR’s View: Van Dijk Superb For Liverpool
There were occasions when Burnley got in behind and should have scored but in the main, Van Dijk was a colossus again for the Reds.
His injury last season was a nightmare and there was an element of dread about his comeback. However, he’s proven everyone wrong and Klopp is right in that he is now back to his best. It’s a huge plus for Liverpool, and a nightmare for everyone else in the PL.
