Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was asked about winger Luis Diaz ahead of the Reds’ Champions League second leg against Benfica.

Klopp brought Diaz to Anfield during the January transfer window and the speed of his adaptation means that Liverpool arguably have the best attacking depth in the Premier League now.

Klopp was asked if anything had surprised him about the man he signed from Porto and the German hailed the wideman’s application in training.

As per the club website, he said: “I didn’t know how much he enjoys training, I had no idea. I’m not sure I ever saw somebody like that. I said it before, he cannot stop smiling during training.

“He just can’t stop. It’s crazy. I didn’t know that. All the rest, how quickly he would adapt, no, we didn’t know that as well. They are all happy, all the players we signed in the last few years were all happy when they arrived here.

“It’s not the worst place in the world, to be honest. Luis is now here already for nearly two months, or is it two months? I don’t know exactly. That’s rare how much he enjoys training, that’s really cool.”

Diaz has the hunger and enthusiasm which are the bedrock of Klopp’s sides and he has the quality to match as well.

He has taken to life at Anfield like a duck to water and for that, Klopp, Diaz and his teammates all deserve credit for that.

It is only when you have a good dressing room and a good side that a player can just slot straight in like he has played 100 games, and Diaz will hope to play a big part in Liverpool’s battle for silverware on four fronts.
