Jurgen Klopp says 22-year-old Liverpool star has looked really good in training
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared that new signing Ibrahima Konate has really impressed in training.
Konate, 22, is with the Reds squad for pre-season after joining in the summer from RB Leipzig.
The French defender is an extremely highly rated ace because of his development in the Bundesliga, but he’s now made the swap for the Premier League.
He made his debut on Tuesday during a 30-minute friendly match with Stuttgart, impressing during a limited time.
The powerhouse centre-back slotted into a back four during the pre-season game, which gave supporters a first peek of him.
Klopp’s said that behind the scenes Konate has equally made a positive impression.
“Ibou did really well and that’s what we expected, he looks really good in training,” Klopp said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Konate will need to shine in training to be Liverpool regular
It seems very unlikely Klopp will change formation to incorporate three centre-backs, so there may be some high-profile names left on the Liverpool bench on a regular basis.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, who are both working back from long-term injuries, will expect to play when available.
However, powerful centre-half Konate won’t have come with the intention to sit on the substitutes bench.
Klopp is going to need to his squad to be competitive both domestically and in Europe. Therefore, it’s going to be intriguing to see what his best XI turns out looking like.
The pressure is on Konate from day one to shine.
