Jurgen Klopp says £180k-a-week Liverpool star won't feature against Palace

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Roberto Firmino won’t feature for the Reds on Saturday.

The Liverpool forward suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea prior to the international break.

Firmino has missed the Reds’ last two fixtures, the 3-0 win at Leeds and the 3-2 triumph over AC Milan.

While he’s been progressing in his individual programme, he’s still “not ready”.

However, Klopp did confirm that the £180,000-a-week star will resume training next week.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Crystal Palace clash, the Liverpool boss said: “He’s not ready.

“Bobby didn’t even start training with the team.

“It will happen at some point next week, he will be back in training and then we will see.”

In Firmino’s place, Klopp has fielded Diogo Jota and Divock Origi.

The Liverpool boss also confirmed that he’d make changes for the meeting with Palace at Anfield.

“The Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday thing is a tough one and the shortest one you can get in a normal week,” said Klopp.

Jordan Henderson could start in place of Harvey Elliott against the Eagles, according to BBC Sport.

The 18-year-old has had surgery on the ankle injury he suffered away at Leeds last Sunday.

As per the Liverpool website, Elliott could return to action later this season, but no timescale has been placed upon his comeback.
