Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp singled James Milner out for praise after the cup win over MK Dons, The Mirror reports. Milner captained a young Liverpool side to victory in the EFL Cup Third Round and Klopp has described him as a “role model”.
Milner scored for the Reds in a 2-0 win with teenager Ki-Jana Hoever grabbing the other. The 33-year-old was the captain for the evening and he led from the front.
Liverpool had a number of debutants on the field, including teenagers Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Rhian Brewster, as well as 20-year-old goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. But it was Milner who stood out for Liverpool.
Klopp on Milner

Klopp said (via The Mirror): “Absolutely this man is on fire, that’s how it is and that’s good. It helps a lot. That’s the real role model for young players. Absolutely great. The player with the most experience and most rhythm was the best player on the pitch.”
TBR’s view
Milner is such a valuable part of the Liverpool squad – both on and off the field. In the clash with MK Dons, he showed his leadership qualities and also demonstrated that he is still a top player.
Klopp loves having Milner in the side because he is a committed professional, he never complains and he is versatile. Milner provides excellent cover in a number of positions and continues to shine.
