Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has given injury updates on two players to the club’s official website, whilst also reserving praise for Fabinho.
The Brazilian stepped into the central defensive breach on Sunday at Chelsea, with both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip struggling with injury.
Fabinho was inspired against the Blues keeping big-money signing Timo Werner at bay on a solid afternoon for Liverpool.
His central defensive duties might be over, however, with Klopp providing some good news on Gomez.
Meanwhile, the news isn’t quite so good for his defensive teammate Matip, who faces a longer spell out on the sidelines.
Klopp told the official website: “Joe actually should be fine. It was not really a big one but we have to see, we should be fine Monday already.
“With Joel it’s slightly different. It’s not the worst thing in the world but a few weeks, a couple of weeks. Probably after the international break he’ll be ready again. We have to see, it’s not cool.
“It’s crazy, in one day ‘bam bam’ but have Fabinho and he played an exceptional game, so that was really, really nice.”
Fabinho signed for Liverool in 2018 for £43.7 million from Monaco and on Sunday he highlighted his versatility to Klopp.
He was brilliant at centre-back and has rightly earned himself some praise from the Reds boss.
With Matip and Gomez both on the sidelines, someone needed to step up and the £100,000-a-week player did so with aplomb.
The 26-year-old is a fan favourite at Anfield and his presence hasn’t gone unnoticed as he’s helped Liverpool towards Premier League and Champions League titles in the last 18 months.
Liverpool still look like the team to beat this season and Fabinho looks very much a mainstay in the Reds team.
