Jurgen Klopp praises Roberto Firmino’s performance after three assists vs Southampton

Firmino shone once again on a weekend where Liverpool went 22 points clear.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp lavished praise on his striker Roberto Firmino after he set up three goals in Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing of Southampton.

Klopp was asked by Liverpool’s official website whether Firmino is unique and he took the opportunity to express his admiration for his skillset.

He said: “He is [unique]. He is just exceptional, a very football-smart person, obviously. In the first half, in between a really tight formation of Southampton, the way he drops and keeps the ball, how he makes things happen is very special, absolutely.

“Then even a player like Bobby needs an address where he can send the ball, because he cannot take the ball and turn and run alone. How he uses the skills of his mates is special. I do not know a player like him, that is true.”

TBR’s View – Firmino could be in conversation for Player of the Year

It looks extremely likely that the PFA Player of the Year will come from Liverpool, seeing as they are the champions elect.

Perhaps Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah will dominate the conversation, but Firmino has carried on playing his game all season long and Liverpool’s system wouldn’t be the same without him.

He remains underrated by some observers and it would be the ultimate recognition for the ultimate team player if he were to scoop the biggest individual award in English football.
