Jurgen Klopp has told SWR Sport that he plans on remaining at Liverpool for the next four years until his Anfield contract expires in 2024 – and has already stated which club he wants to join next.

The Liverpool manager has already earned legendary status at Anfield after securing the club’s first Premier League title, and ending a 30-year wait to be crowned English champions. It comes after winning the Champions League.

With both milestones under his belt, and 260 matches in all competitions since his arrival in 2015, some have questioned what next for Klopp. But he has recently signed a new contract until the summer of 2024.

Speaking candidly about his future, Klopp stated that he wants to remain at Liverpool for the next four years as manager. He then wants to take a year out, before returning to the club he loves – Mainz.

“Four more years at Liverpool,” Klopp said. He then stated that he wants to “do nothing for a year”. Klopp also spoke after those years at Liverpool and a break, and stated that he could return to Mainz: “Most likely even to Mainz.”

TBR’s view – Does Klopp comments open door for Gerrard?

Steven Gerrard – still in charge of Scottish side Rangers – signed a contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2024, at a similar time to Klopp. He has long been touted as Klopp’s potential replacement at Anfield.

Gerrard is expected to remain at Rangers for a number of years, but he is hardly going to stay there beyond his current contract. With Klopp stating he wants four years before leaving, surely that opens the door for Gerrard.
