Steve Bruce is one of the hot topics around the press rooms today, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp among those to be quizzed on the situation at Newcastle at the moment.

Much has been made of the stick Bruce has had from some Newcastle fans during his time with the club. Despite having a poor overall record and arguably deserving to lose his job, the comments on social media and the like have left a sour taste in the mouth.

Bruce has now officially left Newcastle, though, and it feels like everyone, including Bruce, is happy to move on. And Klopp, speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Manchester United, issued his verdict on the matter.

“Don’t read it, don’t watch it,” Klopp said. (Sky Sports)

“Especially in bad periods. I think that’s the best advice you can give. So I’m really sorry for Steve if that happened and he was obviously aware of it.

“I think one of the most important skills in modern football for a manager is not to let criticism get too close to you. Or just ignore it. That’s what I do anyway. But maybe so far in my career I never felt it like Brucey felt it now.”

Fellow Premier League managers, such as Pep Guardiola, have also come out in support of Bruce ahead of this weekend’s games.

TBR’s View: Nice to see PL managers fighting Bruce’s corner

Beyond football and the results business it is, the fact is that sometimes people forget that managers are human beings underneath it all.

Bruce will have received some poor abuse at times. In fact, we know he will have and we have all probably seen examples of it. It’s great, then, to see Klopp backing his fellow manager.

Newcastle will move on now and so will Bruce. But there is a definite lesson for everyone in this whole situation.
