Jurgen Klopp leaves the door open for starlets Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis

Jurgen Klopp has spoken to ESPN about where Liverpool stand in terms of signing a new left back this summer.

Alberto Moreno departed the club for free this summer and in a window where Liverpool do not look to be pushing hard to add many to their squad, getting a back up to Andy Robertson looks one of the main ways they can improve.

But Klopp said after a pre-season friendly against Bradford: “I said already, we have to think about everything, and in the end maybe we do nothing, but we will see.

“As you can imagine, we will have a look at all the things around us. Of course we have lost a left-back and today you saw two pretty young ones [Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis], while James [Milner] has played it and all that stuff.”

Klopp’s comments leave the door open for both Lewis and Larouci to step up to the mark as second choice left back, if he doesn’t bring any new blood in.

Trent Alexander-Arnold forced his way ahead of more established options such as Nathaniel Clyne and Klopp is the kind of manager who will always leave the door open for young players to impress.

It’s one thing doing it in pre-season – quite another doing it when the games really matter – but the quality and form of Robertson should allow Klopp to blood one or both men slowly.

That would surely be preferable than dragging Joe Gomez or James Milner out of position if Robertson is sidelined.
