Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster could be set for a bigger role next season. Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s official website that Brewster has an “important role” in the team next season.

Brewster missed a large chunk of last season through injury but returned towards the end of the campaign. He got his fitness back up and was on the brink of making his first-team debut.

The 19-year-old was on the bench for the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona and for the final against Tottenham Hotspur. But he is still yet to get his first taste of action under Klopp.

But the Liverpool boss has hinted that he will become a senior player next season. Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said: “If Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlina] can stay fit – new player for us.

“Rhian the same; he is a really big talent. We’re really looking forward to seeing him in training and all that stuff. It will be an important role for us, we planned an important role for him. So, new player.”

Rhian Brewster can fill Daniel Sturridge’s void

Liverpool released long-serving striker Daniel Sturridge this summer after a string of injury problems. This led to speculation that the Reds could bring in a new striker to replace him.

But the club can save their pennies this summer if Klopp believes Brewster is ready for action. Liverpool will still prefer Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi over Brewster.

However, the England youth starlet will start getting game time off the bench and in the cup competitions. This will prepare him well for a bright future at Anfield.
