Jurgen Klopp discusses Thiago Alcantara’s injury ahead of Liverpool v West Ham

Liverpool managed Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Thiago is in a “good way” ahead of the weekend, but refused to confirm if he will play against West Ham in the Premier League.

The Reds host West Ham on Saturday evening at Anfield in the Premier League, where they are already without key pair Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho to injuries.

Thiago has had a stop-start since his arrival from Bayern Munich in the transfer window and he’s a talented individual that supporters are desperate to see in full flow.

The 29-year-old midfielder has made two appearances so far, but has been absent from the squad in the last three games with a knee injury.

Klopp has given a positive update on the Spaniard’s fitness ahead of the next fixture, but couldn’t confirm whether he’d play.

“Both {Thiago and Naby Keita] are in a good way. You saw what happened with Thiago. It needs time to settle but we don’t know exactly how long. He is desperate to make the next steps. If he is ready for tomorrow, we will see,” Klopp said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

TBR’s View:

Thiago looks like he’s going to be such an influential figure at Anfield given his ability and it’s sensible not to rush him back from an injury, but the temptation must surely be there with Fabinho sidelined against West Ham.

The deep-lying playmaker was part of a Bayern team that romped to the Champions League trophy last season and he played an instrumental role in Europe for them.

He’s going to add some extra guile in the centre of the park for Liverpool alongside workhorses such as Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum, which is an extremely exciting combination moving forward.
