Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave huge credit to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for his late cameo performance from the bench last night against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Reds, who don’t play again until April, secured a 1-0 away victory on Monday night against Wolves in the Premier League.
Ex-Wolves forward Diogo Jota was the match-winner for the Merseyside giants, as he finished off a great move involving all three attackers.
They jumped up to sixth in the league table after their much-needed win, which leaves them five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.
Klopp gave a special mention to Oxlade-Chamberlain in his post-match interview.
The £35million (BBC) star came onto the pitch in an unfamiliar false nine position
He’s a central midfielder that has also been seen in wide roles before, but he slotted in as the highest attacker and pressed hard in the final few moments.
The 27-year-old came on in the 82nd minute, but there was also a large chunk of additional time.
“Oxlade came on and was a real breath of fresh air. He was brilliant when he came on, especially in that position,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

TBR’s View:
It seems unlikely that fans will see Oxlade-Chamberlain in the central forward position again, as that role is shared between Jota and Roberto Firmino.
But he didn’t look out of position in the role.
The talented Englishman is a bit-part player with just 12 appearances across all competitions this season, and will surely be glad of any game time however it comes.
