Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised Darwin Nunez‘s finishing and movement in training sessions but admitted that the Uruguayan rushes things in games.

The Reds signed the 23-year-old from Benfica for a club-record £85 million (Sky Sports). He was Liverpool’s answer to Manchester City signing Erling Haaland, but the two strikers have started the season very differently.

Nunez has played eight times for Liverpool in all competitions since joining them and has scored just two goals.

It is clear that he’s struggling to adapt to the Premier League and the way Liverpool play, but Klopp has now revealed that the Uruguayan’s finishing in training has been very impressive.

The Liverpool manager said, as per the club’s official website: “I think he said himself he feels the pressure, these kinds of things. He has to calm himself down.

“You can see the movements are exceptional and if you would see him finishing in training you would think, ‘My God.’

“But in the games, obviously, then (he’s) a bit in a rush. He needs to calm down just in the moment to use his full range of finishing but it’s not something – as a striker you just have to feel that.

“Then it will go from there. So, not to change, just to keep going actually.”

A lot was expected of Nunez when he arrived at Liverpool in the summer. Those expectations and the weight of his price tag have clearly played a part in his performances so far.

Klopp’s right, Nunez just has to calm himself down. He is a fantastic striker and he proved that with Benfica last season. He definitely has the potential to do something similar in the Premier League, but it’s not going to happen overnight.

Liverpool fans should give Nunez time to adapt to the English game. Once he’s fully settled, there’s every chance he will become a goal machine for the Reds for years to come.

The Reds take on Arsenal at the Emirates tomorrow and Klopp, who seems impressed by how Nunez is training, could well hand him a start.
