Junior Firpo makes Elland Road claim after Leeds move
Junior Firpo has shared how he reacted when Victor Orta pitched a move to Leeds United to him, while he also shared what everyone has told him about playing at Elland Road – in comments reported by the Yorkshire Post.
Firpo became the first marquee addition for the Whites this summer. As reported by the Daily Mail, he arrives for £13 million.
The news prompted plenty of Barcelona fans to express their disappointment. Meanwhile, former teammates such as Ivan Rakitic were quick to congratulate the 24-year-old on social media.
It is a huge statement from Leeds to land Firpo. But judging by the left-back’s comments, he sees the move to Yorkshire as a massive opportunity.
“Victor spoke with me and showed me the project and I said: ‘Wow, this is interesting’ and at this moment I said: ‘ok, I want to go to Leeds’,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Post.
“All the people say to me that a full Elland Road is incredible and I want to see a full stadium.”
Firpo arrives at Elland Road with point to prove
There is no shame in failing to get into a team on a regular basis when Jordi Alba is a rival.
Nevertheless, Firpo may feel that he has a point to prove. He has made 30 league appearances in a single campaign once in his career.
He turns 25 in August. So he can hardly be considered a youngster in football terms.
He now needs to prove that he can deliver on the potential he has shown during his career. And he will hope to show that Barca made a huge mistake in letting him go for just £13 million.
