West Ham may struggle to get the signing of Hwang Hee-chan over the line, if comments from RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann are to be believed.

The Hammers are said to be exploring the option of signing Hwang. Sky Sports claimed yesterday that a deal could well be on the cards to see the striker arrive in London.

However, according to comments taken from Goal, Nagelsmann says that Hwang will only leave if he signs two players, something he deems unlikely.

“Hwang is trying to go on a loan deal. He wants to play more. I had a conversation with him yesterday. I agree with his opinion. But if we don’t get two more strikers, which I don’t expect, it doesn’t make sense from his point of view for us to give him up,” Nagelsmann said.

West Ham are said to be looking to bring in a new forward after letting Sebastien Haller go. However, it is also possible they don’t make an addition, with midfielder Jesse Lingard also expected to sign.

Hwang is wanting out of the German club after falling down the pecking order. He has had Covid-19, something which Nagelsmann admits has impacted his progress this term.

There are a few days to go and anything could happen, but Nagelsmann is not silly and he won’t just let his players go for the sake of it.

Yes, Hwang wants a move. But Nagelsmann wants a squad and like he says, unless he gets replacements, why would he sanction a deal?

The Hammers have a lot of irons in the fire it seems anyway. Missing out on Hwang would not be the end of the world, although he is a talent and would bring added quality to the ranks.
