Jude Bellingham and West Ham United anchorman Declan Rice played together in midfield for England in the last two games.

Kalvin Phillips faces a race against time to make it to the World Cup and it now seems like Gareth Southgate has a new first-choice midfield pairing.

Bellingham and Rice both played well across both games, especially against Germany on Monday night as England dragged themselves back into the game.

Bellingham praises Rice display for England

Rice took to Instagram yesterday to praise the character of the performance to come back and get something after a bad run of form.

The pressure is building on England, although Rice and Bellingham’s stock continues to rise among fans and pundits alike.

Bellingham was in the comments to praise his midfield partner with a wordless response and got a two-word reply from Rice.

If fit, Rice and Bellingham should go to the World Cup as England’s starting midfield, despite question marks in other areas of the squad.

Gareth Southgate has used a 3-4-3 formation in the last two games, but do England really need that system when they kick off their World Cup campaign against Iran?

Southgate’s England shifted between a four-man and five-man backline during their run to the Euro 2020 final, to great effect.

Rice was a constant presence in that team and it seems like Bellingham is set to join him on that pedestal as their partnership on the pitch continues to grow.
