Juanma must improve to achieve Liverpool potential following youth team thrashing

When Juanma Garcia joined Liverpool in the summer of 2016, there was plenty of hype surrounding the relatively unheard of left-back. Two years on, that belief appears to have been misplaced.

Set to turn 22-years-old in January, Juanma is yet to come anywhere near Jurgen Klopp’s first team and has not kicked on as coaches had hoped at Merseyside, as was shown with his role in a humiliating 7-0 defeat at home to Villarreal in the Premier League International Cup with the under 23s side.

Supposedly one of the older and more experienced members of the young line-up, he looked overwhelmed by the pace and technicality of the Spanish outfit.

Time is running out for him as his contract runs out in the summer and it is hard to envisage that the club will be desperate to keep him on unless he can justify the faith that those in charge have shown already.

With several other youngsters having overtaken him, such as 19-year-old local lad Adam Lewis, in the pecking order, the future does not look bright for the Spaniard.

A January loan move may be possible, but it looks likely that it will be last chance saloon for Juanma to justify an Anfield future.
