Juan Foyth tells Tottenham to sign Lucas 'Titi' Rodriguez

Juan Foyth has been speaking to the media in Argentina about life in lockdown, his future at Tottenham Hotspur and Marcos Rojo’s recent return to boyhood club Estudiantes.

In fact, plenty of the conversation with TNT did revolve around his former club. Foyth left Estudiantes in an £8 million (BBC) transfer to Tottenham in 2017.

One of the questions posed to him regarded who in the current Estudiantes team he would like to see Tottenham sign. The player that Foyth put forward was Lucas ‘Titi’ Rodriguez.

Of course, it is no surprise that Foyth would mention Rodriguez. The pair came through the youth system at Estudiantes together and have also been in the Argentina under-23 team together in the past.

Remarkable Players Sold By Lille OSC XI

Rodriguez is certainly a talented player and that talent caught the eye of MLS side DC United at the start of 2019.

He joined the Washington DC side on a loan deal for the 2019 MLS season and had an impressive, but inconsistent season in North America. As reported by the Washington Post, that loan deal was the subject of a $2.5 million (£2m) purchase option in December 2019. DC United decided not to activate it as it would have occupied a crucial designated player slot in their squad.

So he would be a cheap option. In fact, Rodriguez’s current contract expires this year, so Tottenham could pick him up for free.

However, despite Foyth’s wish, Tottenham will be unlikely to make a move. Rodriguez struggled to make a major impact in the USA, would struggle to get a work permit and Foyth himself looks unlikely to remain at Tottenham through the next transfer window.

Unfortunately for Foyth, a Tottenham reunion with his old pal seems unlikely.
