Juan Foyth posts heartfelt message to Tottenham supporters on Instagram after loan exit
Juan Foyth has posted a heartfelt message to supporters on Instagram after the Argentine defender left Tottenham Hotspur to join La Liga side Villarreal on loan – but confirmed that he hopes to “cross paths” once again.
Foyth, 22, has left Tottenham on loan to join Villarreal after Spurs reportedly offered the former Estudiantes star to the Spanish outfit. Foyth signed a new contract at Tottenham until the summer of 2023 before his move was confirmed.
Under Jose Mourinho, Foyth only managed one Premier League start – coming last December against Norwich City, though he was hooked at half-time in that match. He has not played for Spurs since then, being frozen out by Mourinho.
There is no permanent clause in his loan at Villarreal and he signed a new deal, but Foyth’s Instagram suggests that a permanent exit is possible – claiming that he and Spurs fans could “cross paths” again.
TBR’s view – Should Tottenham keep Foyth beyond loan?
Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and now potentially Joe Rodon will all be above Foyth in the pecking order – especially if the latter signs from Championship side Swansea City.
Foyth is a top player. He offers versatility and he is still young. But he would have to have a stunning season in Spain’s top tier if he is to further his Tottenham career – especially after Mourinho being initially unimpressed with the South American.
