Juan Foyth admits ‘the best thing’ might be a Tottenham Hotspur exit

Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth has admitted he might need to leave the club if he does not get more regular first-team football under Jose Mourinho.

The £8 million (BBC) 2017 signing from Estudiantes was something of a pet project for former boss Mauricio Pochettino but has struggled to make a similar impact since his countryman was replaced by Mourinho.

After missing the start of the season with an ankle injury, he has gone on to play just seven games this season. His last appearance for Spurs came in December and it appears Mourinho prefers the likes of Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga to the Argentine.

Speaking to TNT this week, Foyth made it clear that if the situation does not change whenever football gets back underway, he may need to consider his future at the North London club.

“You always want to play to feel like a player and feel good. It isn’t easy not to play either. But I don’t know, we have to wait now for the transfer window to open.

“If I am going to have opportunities here, I will be very comfortable. And if they won’t count on me, the best thing will be to find another club.”

Tottenham fans have often had something of a love-hate relationship with Foyth. There is no doubt he has bags of talent but he has also been prone to big errors. A move to right-back looked like it might be the way forward for this season, but it is clear that Mourinho is not as keen on Foyth as his predecessor.

Whenever the transfer window does reopen, it appears increasingly likely that Foyth might be using that time to find himself a move away from Tottenham.
