Journalist thinks £55m ace could try to get Arsenal move tied up soon, he 'wants' to join Gunners

Arsenal have been linked with Ben White for a number of weeks now.

And according to journalist Peter O’Rourke, there could be movement regarding the Gunners and the Brighton ace in the coming days.

White was in the England squad which reached the Euro 2020 final, so obviously he’s had other things on his mind besides his future.

But now the tournament is over, O’Rourke predicts discussions will speed up ahead of what he thinks could be a move of up to £55million.

He even suggested the 23-year-old will want things sorted before he goes away on his post-tournament break.

“Yeah, no issues on this one,” O’Rourke told the Football Terrace podcast.

“This one will really speed up now England and the Euros are finished.

“Now the tournament is over, Ben White will probably want to try and get this move tied up before he goes away on a break.

“I can see something happening with Ben White later this week or the start of next week.

“Arsenal are pretty confident that they’ve done enough to get this deal done, convinced the player of the project that Mikel Arteta is trying to work on at the Emirates, so Ben White is seemingly fully on board with that.

“He wants to become an Arsenal player, despite interest from other clubs.

“Everton showed an interest, there was even talk that Chelsea were going to hijack this deal as well.

“But I think Arsenal are so far advanced in this one, personal terms won’t be an issue.”

“It’s just trying to sort out the fee with Brighton, but I think Brighton will reluctantly agree to probably selling Ben White for between £50m to £55m with add-ons.”

Ben White: The story so far

In the space of two years, White has gone from a talented prospect at a modest club to one of English football’s best young centre-backs.

The Brighton academy graduate joined Leeds United on loan in 2019.

Despite having no prior experience in England’s top two league, he was sensational.

White featured in every one of their Championship games and helped them win the title.

The player has since become a regular for the Seagulls, making 36 Premier League appearances last term.

White has also won two caps for England.
