Liverpool are in the market with a new centre-back this summer.

It’s been reported for a while that the Reds are working on signing a new centre-back this summer, with the Merseyside club said to be incredibly keen on Leny Yoro.

Unfortunately for Arne Slot, the French defender looks set for a move to Real Madrid, and the Reds will have to look towards other options.

Speaking on Playback, Ben Jacobs has been discussing the state of play when it comes to Liverpool’s centre-back hunt, and he’s named Willian Pacho as a player who Liverpool could move for if they don’t manage to win the race to sign Yoro.

Liverpool could go for Willian Pacho

Jacobs shared what he knows about Liverpool and their interest in the ‘world class’ defender.

“Liverpool centre-back options? Pacho could be one to watch from Frankfurt still, Liverpool really like the player, and they would love Leny Yoro but they will only move if they feel he’s not going to Real Madrid,” Jacobs said.

Pacho move would be risky

This move could be a serious risk for Liverpool.

Pacho has only played one season at the top level, and while he was very impressive for Frankfurt last term, he doesn’t have a back catalogue of strong performances to back-up a big-money transfer in the same way other defenders do.

Of course, sometimes you do need to roll the dice on an unproven quantity to discover a gem – Arsenal did just that when they signed William Saliba and now he’s one of the best defenders on the planet.

Whether or not Liverpool do ultimately move for Pacho remains to be seen, but if Leny Yoro’s move to Real Madrid accelerates, don’t be surprised if the Merseyside club do switch their attentions to the Ecuadorian and step up their interest.

Pacho is definitely a player to keep in mind at Anfield.
