Arsenal and other suitors feel that £5 million would be a reasonable loan fee to pay for Joao Felix during the January window.

The Gunners are among the clubs who have been linked with a swoop for the wantaway 23-year-old before the end of the month.

But although Atletico Madrid’s financial demands have fallen from an expensive permanent fee to a potential loan, the numbers involved still do not work for Arsenal.

Journalist Ben Jacobs suggested on Twitter that the Gunners would be willing to pay £5 million to sign the forward on a loan deal and cover his full wages.

Arsenal willing to pay £5 million loan fee for Felix

At the moment, it seems like the demands are more like a £12 million loan fee, and then Felix’s wages on top which is a costly package.

And there is seemingly little to no prospect of a permanent option fee being agreed at the end of any loan move to the Premier League.

That said, Felix does look the most viable and appealing short-term striking option for Arsenal to replace Gabriel Jesus if they do dip into the loan market and Atletico continue to drop their demands.

“Joao is very special,” England international Kieran Trippier told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He is a very special player.

“To be fair, he is quite good in the air. When I played with him, the way he attacks the ball. Many people won’t see that in his game, but he is very good in the air.

“Joao has got all the ability in the world to be a world-class player.”
