Tottenham’s Djed Spence is quickly becoming one of football’s great enigmas.
The Spurs right-back can look like a world-beater on his day.
He was named as Gabriel Martinelli’s toughest opponent, and during his time at Nottingham Forest he looked like a Premier League star in the making.
However, over the past 18 months, Spence’s career has gone off the rails. He’s struggled at Spurs, been sent back early from a loan at Leeds and barely made an impact during a loan spell at Rennes.
Now, he’s gone to Genoa for a third loan spell since signing for Tottenham, and speaking on The Spurs Show, Martin Lipton has suggested that the defender is now finished at Spurs.
Indeed, Lipton says he’s heard that Spence is never to return to Spurs after this loan, while he says he’s also heard tales from behind the scenes that suggest that Spence really needs to grow up a bit.

Spence needs to grow up
Lipton shared what he’s heard about Spence.
“Spence has gone to Genoa, never to return, from what I’m hearing. There seems to be issues. I’m hearing things that suggest he has a lot of maturity left to find let’s just say,” Lipton said.
Penny has to drop
By the sounds of it, Spence does carry a bit of an ego with him, but the penny now has to drop for the player.
His career is going in the wrong direction, and surely after playing for four clubs in 18 months he realises that something has to change.
Who knows? Maybe a spell in Italy could be just what he needs to get his head down and get back on track, but, by the sounds of it, he won’t be playing for Tottenham again anytime soon.
Let’s hope that Spence can get his head straight and start moving in the right direction again.
