Ruben Amorim has become the frontrunner for the Liverpool job.

The Portuguese gaffer is reportedly the man Liverpool want to hire to replace Jurgen Klopp, but, as ever, the process of hiring the 39-year-old isn’t proving to be easy.

The Reds have reportedly held talks about hiring Amorim, but according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, it’s been difficult to make any real progress on that front over the past week as the Sporting boss has been wholly focused on some big games for his current club.

Ruben Amorim talks have been tough

Jones shared what he’s heard about Amorim.

“Sporting had two big games last week both against Benfica, and I was always told that this week would be a tough one, because you can’t progress things far with the man himself because these are massive games for the clubs and for the man himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if this dragged out a while longer,” Jones said.

No rush to get Amorim

It sounds as though Liverpool are yet to make a real breakthrough in negotiations with Ruben Amorim, and that’s absolutely fine.

The Reds don’t need a new manager for a couple of months yet, and they have their own title race to focus on.

Yes, work has to be done behind the scenes, but it’s not the end of the world if the new manager isn’t announced until after the end of this season.

Liverpool don’t need to rush to make an appointment, as long as their new man is through the door by the time pre-season starts, that’s all that really matters.

Whether or not Amorim ends up being the new Liverpool manager or not remains to be seen, but, by the sounds of it, Liverpool are indeed keen on the Sporting boss.
