Radu Dragusin is close to becoming Tottenham’s first signing of the January transfer window.

The north London club have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Romanian defender, and according to Dean Jones, this deal is edging ever closer.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones has shared what he’s heard about Dragusin on Thursday morning, and he brings positive news.

Jones’ understanding of this situation is that this transfer is close to coming to fruition, claiming that while both parties haven’t yet agreed a fee, that isn’t unusual in a deal like this, claiming that there’s still every confidence that this deal will get done by next week before the Manchester United game.

Dragusin is close

Jones shared what he’s heard about this transfer.

“I would say it’s close. We’re here on Thursday morning right now, negotiations are going pretty well on this. The two clubs are some way apart in terms of where they value the deal, that’s not unsual. Genoa want as much as they can, Tottenham want to pay as little as they can. They need to meet in the middle, Tottenham ideally don’t want to pay more than £23m to sign him. There’s every confidence they will get that done by next week when the Premier League schedule resumes,” Jones said.

Will he start?

It sounds like Dragusin will be a Tottenham player before the Manchester United game next week, and the question is whether or not he will start against the Red Devils.

Tottenham have a bit of a centre-back crisis on their hands at the moment with Ben Davies and Emerson Royal starting in those positions as of late, and if Dragusin comes in, he could be thrown in straight at the deep end against United.

Of course, Ange Postecoglou has shown in the past that he’s willing to throw defenders in quickly – he started Micky van de Ven against Brentford just five days after he officially signed for the club.

Dragusin may be a Spurs player soon, and we could even see him back in the starting XI against Manchester United.
