Antonio Conte now wants an alternative to Dejan Kulusevski at Tottenham during the January transfer window.

Journalist Dean Jones said on Done Deal that Spurs feel they lack creativity when the Swede does not play and they want someone who can account for that.

Richarlison got injured at the World Cup, but Jones said that Spurs are not prioritising cover and competition for the Brazilian.

Kulusevski of course came to Spurs last January and perhaps a similar masterstroke this year could give them fresh momentum.

Conte wants a Kulusevski alternative

Jones said: “Tottenham are still looking to sign two players this month. What Conte wants is two players who don’t come in to bulk out the squad, they kind of did that in the summer.

“What Conte wants now is two players who make their mark on the starting 11. The one I’m most intrigued by is the attacking player here. Now when I have pressed people, to get an idea of who I should be taking seriously here as targets…

“The message I get back from probably my best contact at Tottenham is that when Kulusevski is not in that Tottenham team it is generally a big problem and so that creativity and type of player, is what they will look for.

“Now when Richarlison suffered his injury I think people expected that it would be a Richarlison replacement who would probably come in.

“But I’m not told that is really the case it’s more the case that they want somebody who can make something happen in a similar way to Kulusevski.”

Tottenham are a different proposition with the wideman in the team, as he offers variety and the ability to dribble with the ball and make things happen.

Heung-min Son runs in behind in general, with Harry Kane dropping in and Kulusevski offers something no other Spurs forward does.

Getting a player of that right quality in mid-season will be tough, and it remains to be seen if Conte will get the two players he wants.
